Workshop ‘Ensuring Quality in IGRT’

WORKSHOP ‘ENSURING QUALITY IN IGRT’ – June 10, 2026, Sofia

From June 11 to 13, Bulgaria will host the International Symposium on Radiation Exposure Monitoring in Diagnostic Imaging (REM2026), for which you are invited to register. We expect the symposium to receive accreditation from EBAMP for continuing education of medical physicists.

We are pleased to invite you to participate in a pre-symposium workshop focused on quality assurance in image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), which will be held on June 10, 2026, in Sofia. The event is organized by BSBPE with the support of the ‘Röntgen’ Foundation and NCRRP and with the participation of two of the experts invited to the REM2026 symposium. The main speaker will be Sébastien Gros from the USA, and Efi Kousouveli, President of EFOMP, will also take part in the meeting (their brief CVs are below).

Preliminary Program

12:30 – 13:00

Opening and Introduction: State of IGRT Practice in Bulgaria

13:00 – 14:30

CBCT Dosimetry – Current Status, Challenges, and Practical Experience

14:30 – 15:00

Coffee Break

15:00 – 16:30

Optimization of the Clinical Application of CBCT – Frequency, Protocols, and Image Quality

We invite medical physicists working in radiation therapy or interested in the topic to participate.

Participation in the workshop is free and is not linked to registration for the symposium.

In view of the hall’s capacity and to ensure an effective discussion, the number of participants is limited to 50 people. Participation requests will be reviewed and approved in the order of their submission (registration timestamp), until the available spots are filled. Once the maximum capacity is reached, a waiting list will be created, and those on it will be included as spots become available.

After the conclusion of the working meeting (4:30 PM), a joint meeting between BSBPE and EFOMP will be held to discuss opportunities for future cooperation.

Location: NCRRP, 1606 Sofia, 3 St. George Sofiyski Street, Building 7, 2-nd floor, Training Hall 225

Brief biographies of the speakers:

Sebastien Gros, PhD, DABR
Dr. Gros is Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at Loyola University Chicago, USA. His clinical and research work focuses on imaging dose optimization in radiotherapy, CBCT dosimetry, adaptive radiotherapy, intraoperative radiotherapy, and cumulative patient exposure management. He leads multidisciplinary initiatives integrating radiation oncology and imaging physics to advance quantitative imaging dose assessment and optimization in clinical practice. Dr. Gros serves as Chair of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine Government and Regulatory Affairs Committee, contributes to ACR Technical Standards and Practice Parameters, and participates in ICRP Task Group 116 and Committee 3’s Working Party on New Technologies.

Efi Koutsouveli, PhD – President of EFOMP Dr. Koutsouveli is a Medical Physics, Radiation Protection and Laser Safety Expert at Hygeia Hospital, Athens, Greece. Her professional focus is on quality assurance, dosimetry, radiation protection of radiotherapy units, paediatric, stereotactic radiotherapy, radiosurgery treatments and patient safety. She is also active in the training of young medical physicists, radiation oncologists, radiation therapists, nurses, administrative staff. Her special interest is on Hospital Quality Management Systems and Quality. She has served in various positions within the Hellenic Association of Medical Physicists (HAMP) board and the European Federation of Organisations for Medical Physics (EFOMP).
