The Bulgarian Society of Biomedical Physics and Engineering (BSBPE) was founded in 1971.
In 2011 it was registered as a non-profit legal entity. The Society is a voluntary association of physicists, biophysicists, engineers and other specialists with higher education who work in the field of biomedical physics and engineering. The Society has the following goals:

1. To express and protect the rights and interests of its members, to support and unite their professional and creative activities;
2. To take the initiative to participate in expert, attestation, legislative and other public and state bodies in resolving issues in its field;
3. To work for the progress of biomedical physics and engineering and for their application in Bulgarian medical science and practice;
4. To support the development of healthcare in the Republic of Bulgaria, the organization of health care for the population and the introduction of the achievements of biomedical physics and engineering into medical practice;
5. To support and encourage the efforts of its members to develop their scientific interests and improve their knowledge and practical skills;
6. To assist in the training and qualification in biomedical physics and engineering;
7. To cooperate with related national and international organizations for the rapid and effective exchange of scientific information and practical experience;
8. To promote the achievements of biomedical physics and engineering among the population of the country;
9. To assist the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria, the Union of Medical Societies in Bulgaria, the Union of Physicists in Bulgaria and other organizations in the country in developing and implementing their programs for the development of biomedical physics and engineering.
